As the single largest online poker site, Poker Stars offer an unrivaled selection of poker tournaments. There is literally a tournament available to suit every bankroll and poker variation. Here we will look at a selection of the current tournaments at Poker Stars – focusing on the biggest and the best available.
Perhaps the most famous Poker Stars tournament is the weekly ‘Sunday Million’. This is a $200+$15 buy-in event that regularly attracts fields of more than 6,000 players and a prize pool of over $1.5 Million dollars. Scheduled on a Sunday afternoon this tournament attracts players ranging from named professionals through to recreational online gamers. There are always a large number of satellite tournaments scheduled which award prizes of entries to the Sunday Million. These range from sit and goes through to multi-table re-buy tournaments and can be entered for as little as $3.
For players outside of the US the Sunday Million can often last until the early hours of the morning. Poker Stars have thus introduced a high buy-in event with a much earlier start time. The ‘Sunday Warm-Up’ follows a similar format to the Sunday Million, but starts in the US morning / European afternoon. This tournament guarantees $400,000 in prizes for the $200+$15 buy-in and numerous satellite qualifiers are also available.
Players with a smaller bankroll are well catered for at Poker Stars – this also includes a tournament with the largest field of any online tournament. The ‘Sunday $100k’ is a $10+$1 buy-in event which often attracts fields of a huge 20,000 players. Satellites are available for this event from just 70 ‘Frequent Player Points’.
The regular daily schedule of Poker Stars tournaments is too big to list in a single article. Games covered are not restricted to the most popular form of no-Limit Holdem. Omaha, Omaha hi-lo, Stud (including hi-lo), 5-card draw, 2-7 triple draw and Razz are all available in tournament format. There are also fixed-limit and pot-limit betting variations included in the schedule as well as ‘mixed games’ such as HORSE (Holdem / Omaha Hi-Lo / Razz / 7 Card Stud / 7 Stud Hi-Lo).
In addition to the game variations and buy-in differences from just a few cents up to $100’s, there are tournaments scheduled with turbo blinds (either 10 minute or 5 minute) and re-buy facility. The re-buy tournaments allow you to buy extra chips whenever your starting stack is 1500 or below and also allow an additional add-on at the end of the first hour.
